Indigenous Cedar Weaving with Stephanie Craig

Stephanie Craig is a seventh-generation basket weaver, taught by her great great aunties, grandmother and Tribal Elders. She is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, living with her family in her mother’s Kalapuyan traditional homelands and on her father’s 150 year old family farm. Stephanie is committed to documenting, educating, and preserving cultural practices for future generations.

In this workshop Stephanie will:

– teach traditional weaving techniques for raw cedar bark, as well as sedge, rush, and grass
– share information on how to gather, prepare and store bark, traditional ecological knowledge and lifeways
– display her private basketry collection, handed down over the generations

At the end of our two days participants can leave with a completed basket!
