We are thrilled to screen These Sacred Hills at the Redd on August 12 in partnership with Confluence and EcoTrust. The film centers the Rock Creek Band of the Yakama Nation as they fight to protect sacred lands from the Goldendale Pump Storage project—an industrial development they’ve opposed since 2018.
Though Rye Development claims sufficient consultation, the Rock Creek Band maintains that their concerns have been ignored. Their story reflects a larger pattern of land dispossession and cultural erasure—and a call to action. These Sacred Hills urges viewers to uphold treaty rights, advocate for Indigenous leadership in environmental policy, and recognize Native sovereignty in the face of ongoing colonization.
Told through intimate, observational filmmaking, the documentary follows the community through their seasonal food gathering practices, capturing quiet, powerful moments that reflect resilience, connection, and reverence for the land. It’s a deeply human portrait of a people and place—one that challenges us to rethink our relationship with both.
