Culture is something everybody has. Participants in this professional development workshop will gain cultural self-awareness and cross-cultural understanding to become co-responsible for building healthy communities in the classroom. That journey begins with openness and curiosity.
This workshop is for teachers across multiple content areas, including social studies, science and the arts. It will provide guiding principles in teaching Tribal history as Oregon history and take-home activities for educators to engage students on a journey of inclusivity that includes fostering social learning, teaching multiple perspectives, understanding implicit bias, sovereignty, and the intersection of history, culture and place from a multicultural framework.
Activities and guidelines were adapted from REACH (Respecting Ethnic And Cultural Heritage) and the Since Time Immemorial curriculum from the State of Washington. This workshop will prepare educators to better implement the lessons being developed statewide and with local tribes.

Our workshop trainer is Robin Butterfield, a citizen of the Winnebago Tribe who also has ancestry from the White Earth Nation, has more than 40 years of experience in American Indian education. She is past president of the National Indian Education Association.
