Aligning with Oregon’s SB 13 – Tribal History / Shared History and Washington’s Since Time Immemorial
This professional development will be done in a cohort model that will be spread out over multiple weeks and will have both asynchronous time and synchronous virtual group time.
In Cohort 1, we will be applying the Critical Orientations for Indigenous Studies Curriculum by Leilani Sabzalian, Assistant Professor, Indigenous Studies in Education, University of Oregon, to content and conversations. There will be prompting questions for you to reflect and journal about to guide your experience, videos to explore your understanding and application of content, and opportunities to learn from and interact with other educators and their understanding and commitment to lifting up Indigenous voices in their classrooms.

Cohort 1 schedule:
Week 1:
Wednesday, 11/18/20, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm, 1.5-hours synchronous virtual group time
and 1-hour asynchronous learning
Week 2:
Wednesday, 12/02/20, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, 1-hour synchronous virtual group time
and 1-hour asynchronous learning
Week 3: Wednesday, 12/09/20, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, 1-hour synchronous virtual group time
and 1-hour asynchronous learning
Week 4:
Wednesday, 12/16/20, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm, 1.5-hours synchronous virtual group time
total hours of synchronous virtual group time = 5
total hours asynchronous learning= 3

Louise Wilmes – Native Hawaiian/Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma
Louise brings 41 years in education, (K-2), Title VI Indian Education Coordinator into the discussion space. She is retired but serves our community by challenging history and stereotypes about Indigenous peoples, through education.
