#SupportIndigenous – LaRonn Katchia

Meet LaRonn Katchia: An award-winning filmmaker from Warm Springs, LaRonn is using the power of cinema to reshape how Native stories are told. LaRonn’s films challenge stereotypes, amplify Native voices, and open space for stories that mainstream media often ignores — stories of resilience, complexity, and creativity.

Whether working on a feature, a documentary, or a short, he centers Native experiences with honesty and artistry. LaRonn also works actively with local youth to inspire future filmmakers, actors, and creatives.

“Getting support for my work means having the ability to pour energy into projects that matter—not just to me, but to the indigenous community and beyond. Whether it’s leading youth film workshops in Warm Springs or producing documentaries that reflect Indigenous knowledge and impactful stories, this kind of support makes it possible to stay rooted in purpose. It allows me to create work that’s not only meaningful, but also healing and empowering for Natives everywhere.”

But filmmaking is an expensive, time-intensive art form. For emerging Native filmmakers, support can make the difference between finishing a project or letting it stall. We’ve been honored to support Indigenous Filmmakers across the region through our Indigenous Filmmaker Fellows program.

“Stipends and artist support aren’t just financial—they’re a statement. They say our stories have value. They say our time, knowledge, and creativity deserve to be respected. As Native artists, we often carry the weight of preserving culture, language, and community through our work. Having stipends makes that work sustainable. It allows us to continue showing up, not only as artists, but as mentors, leaders, and culture-bearers.”
