Gorge Arts & Culture Discovery Month
May 4, 2011
The Sandy River Delta is the place to be on Saturday morning, May 21, 2011. The Confluence Project and Friends of the Sandy River Delta will participate in the Columbia Gorge Arts & Culture Alliance's May 2011 Gorge Arts & Culture Discovery Month.
The Friends of the Sandy River Delta is a nonprofit organization that formed in response to implementation of the U.S. Forest Service management plan and the installation of the Confluence Project's Sandy River Delta Bird Blind. With the Friends' involvement, the Sandy River Delta site has developed into a well-managed, multi-user and multi-activity venue, drawing hikers, cyclists, equestrians, dog walkers and bird-watching enthusiasts.
On Saturday, May 21, the Friends will open their booth (located near the parking lot's restroom kiosk) from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a "meet and greet." A Friends tour guide will be on hand to host visitors for a trek on one of the Sandy River Delta trails. At their booth, the Friends plan to share maps, informational materials and even dog treats for canine friends.
At 10 a.m. the Confluence Project staff will lead a fascinating 1.2 mile (2.4 mile round-trip) walk out to Maya Lin's Bird Blind. Come prepared with questions, hats, water, sturdy footwear, sunscreen, cameras and binoculars. Look for Confluence Project (CP) tour leaders, wearing their official black CP logo T-shirts, near the restroom kiosk in the Sandy River Delta parking lot.
